Big rigs mistake helps Jackson Electrical take NZ 18ft skiff title

'Jackson Electrical in full flight'    Greg Fenwick

Jackson Electrical sailed by Chris Skinner, Luke Gower and Dave Healy are the 2009 NZ
18ft skiff Champions following a consistent series in difficult conditions, in which they won
half the races and didn't finish outside the top three in any races.

Day 1 greeted the fleet with a light breeze which was forecast to build. This saw the fleet split
in their choice for the #1 or #2 rig. The forecast came true and by midway through the second race
|the breeze had picked up to 30-35knots. With the teams carrying #1 rigs all retiring in
the first race and a number of gear failures thorughout the fleet, only two teams finished

the 2009/2010 Barely There Calendar

Every year 3rd year Veterinary students from Massey University in Palmerston North celebrate the fact that they've made it half way through the challenging 5 year Vet Science degree by going on an overnight class trip which involves team bonding activities such as white water rafting and caving.

In order to subsidise the cost of the bus and accommodation they fundraise ... by making a tasteful nude calendar!

The Formula SAE® competition is for SAE student members to conceive, design, fabricate, and compete with small formula-style racing cars. The restrictions on the car frame and engine are limited so that the knowledge, creativity, and imagination of the students are challenged. The cars are built with a team effort over a period of about one year and are taken to the annual competition for judging and comparison with vehicles from colleges and universities throughout the world.

The University of Auckland FSAE team competes annually in the Australasian FSAE competition, and has attended the Germany competition as well.
